Sensitivity works by angles, so it is actually the same rotation for every resolution. But as there are more or less pixels in that same angle due to a different resolution, it feels different. At least that's how I explain it.

Changing your resolution won't affect your sensitivity, but your refresh rate will.

Well it doesn't affect your sensitivity, but a higher refresh rate could make your mouse feel more responsive because your screen is refreshing quicker.

1) AFAIK, SOME of the acceleration options built into Quake indirectly depend on the frame rate (and some of the acceleration options are smarter and try and undo or counteract that effect).
(Or it used to be like that in the past for some accel options, I don't know the specifics...)

An example: Your frame rate is 125fps, and you get 5 mouse counts each frame while moving the mouse at a certain speed.
The Quake accel calc uses 5, meh.
You drop your frame rate to 60fps, and now the same mouse movement causes ~10 mouse counts per frame. The Quake accel calc goes "10", yoohoo! lets apply more accel!
If your frame rate stutters a bit to 30fps, you get ~20 mouse counts and accel goes stupid.

2) Windows XP & Vista scale mouse input by × Monitor Refresh Rate when the Control Panel 'Enhance pointer precision' option is ON.

Unless your game config uses DirectInput or Raw Input, or you use the CORRECT Cheese Mouse Fix for your in-game monitor refresh rate, higher refresh rates have a higher mouse sensitivity.

Yes, Microsoft stuffed up the Control Panel mouse sensitivity calculation when 'Enhance pointer precision' is on.
That's why there is more than one Cheese Mouse Fix : one registry file per refresh rate.

I don't think anyone uses "Enhance Pointer Precision". Weird nonetheless.

Lots of people don't want to use 'Enhance pointer precision', but some games turn it on in-game, which is why the CPL & Cheese & MarkC Mouse Fixes exist : to tweak accel off even when the game turns 'Enhance pointer precision' on.

What about if you change your resolution to one with a different aspect ratio? Will you need to change yaw/pitch for the same feel?

When I first moved to a 16:9 screen from 4:3 I felt like I needed to change pitch. Even though it does not changing the 4:3 section of the image as it were, just tacking on more on the horizontal edges.

But after an hour or so I went back again and it felt fine.

Fov works in angles, so higher res doesn't affect it. But aspect ratio does.

Afaik fov works off the horizontal and then works out the vertical, so fov 100 on a 4:3 res is: 100 horizontal fov x 75 vertical fov

When you use a widescreen res, you used to have to tell quake about it with a cmd like cl_aspectratio. But in ql it does it automatically if you choose your res in the settings menu.

What the game does is:
if you have fov 100 on a 4:3 res and then switch to a 16:10 res, it will keep your fov value the same but will add on the extra fov automatically. So basically if you put a black bar on either side to simulate a 4:3 res, and then changed to a 4:3 res, there would be no difference.

If the game didn't do this, it would stretch everything out and you end up with the wrong ratio of horizontal:vertical fov.

thats my prob, ql doesnt force aspect ration and my monitor cant do this aswell :|

yeah, everything just felt bigger in lower res

When i used the phoon.us calculator my dpi was not enough for 3 sens at 400dpi at 1920x1080 so when i changed to 1600x900 it says i had enough dpi for my sens. Maybe your mouse was skipping and you feel smoother now?
