Get "Elements of Style" by Strunk and White. Hands down best book on concise prose.

One of the major problems of mine is that I tend to overly use passive tone in all my conversations like for example the overuse of "to be"

For example If I were to talk about winning, I would say this "I would have won but I could not do it properly" which is very passive since it does not have great impact on the reader
